About Our Best Practices

Gary Blumberg, founder of Our Best Practices, describes the idea behind it, as “a mindset, and our actions stemming from that, which enable us to be at our very best”.

In his earlier career as an International Sports Lawyer, Gary represented some of the best soccer players and teams in the world. Superstars Paul Gascoigne, Alan Shearer, Chris Waddle, Lucas Radebe and Brad Friedel were among them; and English Premiership giants Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur were just some of the clubs he worked with.

Among the golfers he worked for, were Major winners and former World Number 1, Ernie Els, and World Number 2, Nick Price. The breadth of his sports business experience extended the NBA, NFL, International Cricket and Rugby, and National Sporting Federations, amongst other sports and leagues.

Gary’s business consultancy/advisory roles have included professional services, retail, education, finance, and media sectors; and comprise publicly listed companies, medium and small businesses; and start-up and non-profit organisations.

“While completing my Master of Science in Applied Positive Psychology and Coaching Psychology, which I began in 2021; I began to develop my own programs, models, and frameworks founded on some core principles in those fields.”

“I knew intuitively and anecdotally through experience, that some behaviours and habits led to optimal and effective performance in mine and others’ lives. However, now I was considering these through an evidence-based prism. Through my 30-year business and professional career, I had always been aware of ‘best practices’, which, the Oxford English Dictionary defines as: ‘commercial or professional procedures that are accepted or prescribed as being correct or most effective.’ It occurred to me that what I was studying, and now adapting in my own way, were essentially ‘best practices’ for individuals, and groups of individuals, to thrive in everyday life.”

Why "OUR"?

The process that underpins Coaching Psychology assumes any client or coachee has the tools for, and is capable of, figuring out their own way forward. But “Coaching” in this environment enables a managed conversation or process to help them achieve that more effectively. It always collaborative. By designing and applying concepts that can act as a canvas for more individual meaning, clients can take more ownership of the outcomes.

Why "BEST"?

Why “Best”? Positive Psychology, conceptually, aims to explore scientifically all those areas, behaviour and processes that enable us to be, or at least aspire to be, at our best – to flourish in any setting. It doesn’t ignore that in everyone’s life at some point there will be adversity, but rather, aims to help us to create and develop the tools and skills at our disposal to face, and often embrace, those challenges.

Why "PRACTICES"?

Why “Practices”? Our ‘practices’ are our habits and day to day behaviours, but almost any skill or learning requires ‘practice’. The takeaway and philosophy of a lifelong pursuit in personal growth, development, and perspective; is that anything worth getting better at, requires commitment and endeavour.
In this way we can shift the paradigm by offering fresh perspectives while always paying homage to the evidence-based research and work that we are fortunate to be able to access.
Thus, ‘’OUR BEST PRACTICES’ are what we are striving to ‘do’, to ‘be’ and to ‘focus on’: How we can work at being the very best version of ourselves?
